Episode 3: When the Invisible Becomes Visible

What if a single discovery could change everything?

In the early 20th century, a strange light captivated the world…

X-rays reveal the invisible. Science accelerates. Pioneers multiply.

From Röntgen to Marie Curie, from battlefields to radiology departments, a revolution is underway.

And at the heart of this transformation, a substance with an unexpected destiny: Lipiodol.

Thanks to the intuition of visionaries like Sicard and Forestier, it ushered in a new era: one where we could see far beyond the bones… and explore the inside of the body.

Episode 1 : "The Founders"

At the beginning of the 20th century, two passionate friends—Marcel Guerbet and Laurent Lafay—set themselves a challenge: to improve existing iodinated oils. After months of experimentation, they developed a revolutionary formula, twice as concentrated in iodine. Lipiodol was born. Aware of the immense potential of their discovery, they created a company to commercialize it. In 1901, as Marcel became the father of André, the latter would, a few years later, found the Guerbet laboratories and give this pioneering innovation the industrial scale and longevity that would define its future.

Episode 2 : "The remarkable story of Lipiodol®"

Born in 1901 from a scientific quest around iodized oil, Lipiodol has continuously evolved. From a therapeutic breakthrough to a revolution in radiology, it is still opening new medical possibilities today.
Proof that research driven innovation can stand the test of time…
