The ability to shrink or even eradicate a tumor by delivering a chemotherapeutic agent directly to the targeted area using a small catheter tube and image guidance is a notion the Interventionists of the 1960s would have most probably considered unthinkable.
Hence the celebration of the Without a Scalpel Day on January 16th every year, to recognize the opportunities to treat a disease without a scalpel.
